Dr. Nirmal Singh, the Speaker of the erstwhile J&K State Legislative Assembly, that ceases to exist now, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since November 08. A University Professor turned politician is being accorded brick-bats by the enlightened folk cutting across all party lines on the issue of his continuance as Speaker. It seems and we are told that he has thrown all norms to winds by sticking to the Chair of the Hon'ble Speaker which is totally illegal, atrocious, morally untenable, unwarranted, unjustifiable and unconstitutional.
The State Legislative Assembly, if I am not mistaken, ceased to exist on October 30, 2019 midnight but the Speaker to-date continues to call the shots which is a brazen breach of the
constitution thereby eroding the public confidence in the sacrosanct rule of law. This scribe fails to understand the logic in defying the constitutional conventions and propriety and even the incumbent Lt. Governor Mr. G.C. Murmu is sitting pretty over the matter. Two separate communications dated 08.11.2019 addressed to Hon'ble Union Home Minister and Hon'ble Lt. Governor along with 03 enclosures have already been sent for appropriate action as warranted under the constitution of which the duo are upholders.
People are keeping their finger crossed as to when the top ranking both at the centre and the state will deliver.
