Guruparv celebrated with religious fervour, traditions

Tawi, January 05 : The winter capital of Jammu and on Friday celebrated Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji with religious fervour, gaiety and devotion.

The main function of the 351st Prakash Parv (Birthday Celebrations) of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji, the 10th Sikh Guru and founder of Khalsa Panth, was celebrated at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, Jammu. Thousands of devotees participated.

Thousands of devotees including men, women and children paid obeisance at various Gurdwaras, which were illuminated and decorated with colourful buntings.

Guru Gobind Singh, born as Gobind Rai in 1666 at Patna was the tenth Sikh Guru, a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher.

The only son of ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur and Mata Gujri, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, the 10th Guru of Sikhism who laid down his own life and sacrificed his father, mother and sons for the sake of humanity and protection of right cause of people. On the occasion people of all colors and creeds participated in which Ragi Jatha Bhai Baldev Singh Ji Vadala, Parcharak Bhai Jaswant Singh Ji Parwana, Ragi Jatha Bhai Mehtab Singh Ji-Jalandhar who were especially invited for the occasion recited Shabad Keertans that stressed on imbibing the higher values of life and communal harmony for which Guru Gobind Singh ji strived for.

The Guru protected the weak, meek and voiceless people. Local Ragi Jathas also participated and recited the Gurbani Kirtan and thrown light on the history of life and teaching of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.

The stage of Samagam was conducted by the General Secretary of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu S. Avtar Singh Khalsa and Vote of thanks was presented by the President of the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu S. Jagjit Singh. During the Samagam Chiarman State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board besides other speakers.

They urged devotees to follow the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh ji which are very relevant these days. A memorandum of demands was presented to J&K Govt's representative participating in the Samagam. The son of the soil, prominent Doctor of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. S. S. Soodan who was part of delegation of Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICANW) who received Noble Peace Prize was honoured at the stage of the Samagam and S. Prem Singh proprietor Vikram Body Builders, Kunjwani was also honoured for providing beautifully decorated vehicle for the palanquin of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji for Vishal Nagar Kirtan every year.

Similarly S. Jatinder Singh, Director, Command Area who has been awarded DGP medal was also honoured. Prominent those who were present Jathedar Mohinder Singh, Member DGPC, President Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) J&K, TS Wazir, S. Kuldeep Singh, Vice President, DGPC, S. Mohinder Singh-Akhnoor, S. Harjinder Singh Raina, S. Manmohan Singh, S. Fateh Singh, S. Darbinder Singh, S. Ramneek Singh, S. Raja Singh (All DGPC Members), Advocate Surinder Singh, S. Narinder Singh Khalsa, S. Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, S. Surjit Singh, S. Manjit Singh-Ex Secretary DGPC, S. Jaspal Singh Mangal, Bhai Gurdev Singh, S. Harbhajan Singh-Gole Gujral, S. Attar Singh and S. Dayal Singh Wazir.

More than ever the needs the message of love, harmony and brotherhood as preached and practiced by Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. After the culmination of the Samagam, Guru-Ka-Langar was served to all the devotees.

The Sikh community attired in colourful dresses, paid obeisance at Gurdwaras. The main function was held at Gurdwara Chatipadshahi in old city's Rainawari area while as the Amira Kadal Gurdwara also witnessed heavy rush of devotees.

Many religious and social organizations had arranged ‘langars' for the devotees at these Gurdwaras.

 The Governor, N N Vohra and chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti greeted the people on this occasion.

    Meanwhile, ADGP Munir Ahmed Khan has greeted people of Jammu & Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Gurpurab.

He has prayed for the well-being of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and for the peace in the state.

ADGP hoped that this auspicious occasion would further strengthen brotherhood, communal harmony, amity and secular traditions and would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State.
