Jammu Tawi: One day training programme entitled, “First Field Release of Trichogramma chilonis for the management of fall army worm in maize” was organized for farmers at village Khara and Madana, Distt. Samba by All India Coordinated Research project on Bio Control in collaboration with AICRP for Dryland Agriculture (AICRPDA), ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar under the aegis of SKUAST-Jammu. In this training, farmers from villages Khara and Madana participated and interacted with scientists of ACRA, SKUAST-Jammu regarding the latest scientific plant protection techniques for managing the fall army worm (FAW) in maize crop and (Trichogramma Chilonis) release of this egg parasitoids to control the FAW.
Various scientists from different disciplines delivered their expert lectures in this training programme. Dr. A. P. Singh, I/c ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar at the outset of the programme extended warm welcome to the participating farmers. Dr. Reena Principal Investigator of the Project, emphasized on the bio intensive pest management in maize crop through biological treatments. Dr. Sonika Jamwal, discussed the biological management of plant diseases. Dr. Rohit Sharma discussed in details regarding the various agro-techniques of moisture conservation for higher productivity of maize and emphasized the farmers to adopt latest biological control technologies in the present scenario.
The farmers appreciated the working by scientists of ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar and also expect such types of trainings in future. At the end of the programme, Dr. Reena expressed the vote of thanks to the participants, experts and the persons involved in the training programme.
