NIA, ED used as weapons to harass political opponents: Mehbooba

Date:

Srinagar, Aug 18 ;  Asserting that ‘NIA and ED have been weaponized to harass and punish political opponents', former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday alleged that the Centre has subverted all institutions, including media, to an extent where instead of upholding the truth they peddle lies.
‘Unfortunately agencies like NIA & ED that should be working on serious cases are weapons to harass & punish political opponents. GOI has Talibanised & subverted all institutions in Godi media to the extent where instead of upholding the truth they peddle their lies,' Ms Mehbooba, who is the president of PDP, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Reacting to the summoning of her mother, Ms Mehbooba said the last time she received a summon was when PDP boycotted the Delimitation Commission. ‘This was followed by another summon when I staged a peaceful protest on 5th August criticising the illegal abrogation of Article 370', she said. 'In New being summoned by agencies like NIA & ED has become a ritual for whoever disagrees with GOIs divisive agenda & policies. In my mother's case, the chronology is quite clear,' Ms Mehbooba added.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday questioned Gulshan Nazir, wife of former Union Home Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayed, for about three hours in a money laundering case here.
