Jammu Tawi, July 18: Lawyers Action Committee (LAC) appreciated the decision of the J&K High Court on resumption of physical hearing in High Court and Subordinate Courts in J&K UT and impressed upon the Chief Justice further ease the restrictions on the physical appearance of the people engaged in litigation and for those who intend to seek judicial reliefs and adjudication.
In a meeting of practising lawyers presided by Sh. HC Jalmaria, Convenor, LAC said that decision of physical hearings in the courts has given much needed relief to lawyers and the litigant public who have been suffering a lot due to restrictions on free access to Courts due to the spread of Corona and resultant closures. The Lawyers said that, since things have now improved due to vaccination and low Covid infections and opening of business and other life activity all around, it would be better if the physical appearance in cases by the stakeholders are allowed in the courts, though with needed precautions and observing SoPs.
The Lawyers expressed deep concern over the virtual mode functioning of CAT Bench at Jammu where old cases do not reach and lawyers and litigants are suffering. The CAT should immediately start physical hearings. It was urged upon the Govt. to shift the CAT near to the High Court at Jammu.
The LAC also demanded resumption of the CONSUMER COURTS which were closed two years ago. The whereabouts of the files of the consumers who had approached the Consumer Courts in J&K before that are not known. This is just denial of justice to the public as mandated by the Constitution.
