Ganderbal, Dec 30: The residents of the Kalas-Pati Poshkar area of Kangan held a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) and demand up-gradation of the electric transformers.

The protestors alleged that a 100 KV transformer was installed in their village but due to the large population, an upgraded transformer is required to meet their power needs.

“Various times, the installed transformer got damaged due to overload”, they said and demanded installation of 250 KV transformer in their village. “We repair the transformer almost two to three times every month, now we are tired of it.”

They said that in absence of electricity they are facing a lot of problems and their children are not able to study in late hours. “Many times the transformer gets damaged which affects electricity. Our students suffer a lot due to this,” said a resident.

They added: “We brought this issue to the notice of concerned higher-ups several times but their repeated assurances proved a hoax on the ground.”

The residents have urged for immediate restoration of the upgraded transformer or “we will start protesting on roads”. They also appealed to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal to look into the matter.
