J&K LG approves recruitment of 800 Sub-Inspectors in police department

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday approved a proposal to recruit 800 Sub-Inspectors in the police department.

Sinha also approved the selection process of the non-gazetted posts in the three departments including, Police, Prisons and Fire & emergency Services through the Service Selection Board (SSB).

As per news gathering agency KNO, the selections will be based on written and physical tests even as the committee for physical tests shall be constituted by the SSB in consultation with the government.

The number of people appearing for the physical fitness test will be based on the pattern adopted by some of the States/Union territories and that the entire process of fitness test shall be video-graphed to ensure transparency, the report said.

Regarding the issues of seniority hampering the career progression of police officials posted at different levels, the report said that a common seniority of the Sub-Inspectors recruited against the direct recruitment vacancies in the Armed and the Executive Wing via a combined examination will be maintained to ensure smooth career progression of the officers.

The announcement of recruitment comes two days after LG had noted that the UT administration is moving ahead in the direction of expediting the process for recruitment of the 25,000 promised in the public sector/ government departments to employ the youths of J&K.

According to the report, 18,000 posts have been advertised by Service Selection Board for recruitment in various departments, even as more posts are being identified gradually.

The Jammu and Kashmir Bank has advanced over Rs 340 crore to as many as 19,600 youth from across the UT, the report said.
