Infiltration bid foiled, one foreign militant killed

Kupwara, May 20: The security forces foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control at Tangdar sector in the Kupwara frontier district of Kupwara district and killed one militant in an encounter and recovered huge quantity of heroin from him, officials said on Friday.

The officials told, that the soldiers(3/9 GR) noticed some suspicious movement along the LoC near Darshan Post and challenged the Infiltrators, who opened firing, and the army retaliated, leading to the killing of an infiltrating militant.

While identifying the infiltrator as, Mohammad Muneer son of Bilal Ahmad, a resident of Jura BandiBandi (POK), the officials said that a large cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, 2-AK Magazine, 2 Chines Pistol, 4 Pistol Magazines, 10Kg Heroin, one Mobile Phone and other food items were recovered, ” they said.

Army in a tweet said that the infiltration bid along LC foiled by alert Indian Army troops in Tangdhar Kupwara today morning. “Action resulted in elimination of 01 militant & warlike stores including 02× AKs, 02x Grenades, 10 packets of Narcotics recovered,” it said.

Meanwhile, another security official said that they are closely monitoring the whole development on borders. “Infiltration is a cause of serious concern and we are taking it seriously,” he said.

The operation was in progress and searches were underway in the forward area of Darshan Post at the time of filing of this report.
