Army conducted an “Afforestation Drive” at Salwa in Poonch district. The drive was aimed at increasing the green cover in the area and spreading awareness among local population about importance of saving the environment. The plantation drive was also aimed at sensitizing the youth about their social and environmental responsibility to make our region green and clean. Approximately 100 fruit bearing trees were planted during the event.
The programme also included promulgation of Government policies to enforce the restructured comprehensive rural environment programmes. The issue of putting focused efforts for afforestation of degraded forest areas and adopting best wildlife management practices were also discussed. On the occasion, villagers were educated on the importance of planting trees to keep the environment clean so that carbon imprints remain under control. The youth were made to take pledge to conserve the flora and fauna for benefit of future generations.
The audience were encouraged to contribute more towards preserving environment and share their ideas and activities for making their place of habitat cleaner, greener and brighter. The initiative by Army was highly appreciated by the youths and locals.
