Sopore, Jun 30: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in Sopore area of Kashmir's Baramulla district.
A police spokesman said that on a specific input regarding movement of militants, a joint naka was established at 06:40 PM by Sopore police, 52 RR, 177 BN CRPF at Takyabal Krankshivan jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo.
“During checking, a suspicious movement of three persons was observed who were coming from Dharnambal towards Takyabal and on seeing the naka party, the suspected persons tried to flee from the spot but the security forces apprehended them tactfully. During the search, two pistols, two magazines, 10 pistol rounds, one hand grenade, one AK-47 rifle were recovered from their possession,” police said.
During questioning, police said that they revealed their identity as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie of Amargarh, Amir Shafqat Mir, son of Mohammad Shafi Mir of Amargarh and Tahir Nisar Sheikh, son of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh of Baag e Rehmat Sopore.
Preliminary investigation revealed the arrested individuals are uncategorized militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who were planning to attack security forces and civilians, police said, adding that a case under relevant sections has been lodged at Police Station Tarzoo while the further investigation is still going on.
