3 drug peddlers held in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar, Aug 06 :  and Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

“A police party of Police Post Reshipora led by In-charge PP Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti-JKPS intercepted two suspicious persons at Railway Station crossing Panzgam. On checking, 1500 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the .

They have been identified as Abdul Rashid Bhat son of Sonullah Bhat & Shamim Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Ahmad Ganie, both residents of Pattan Baramulla. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.

“During preliminary questioning, they revealed that one more notorious/ habitual drug peddler namely Bilal Ahmad Dar son of Asan Dar resident of Lidermud is also involved in the ugly of selling, purchasing and consumption of Narcotics,” police said.

“Accordingly, on their disclosure a police party alongwith Executive Magistrate Litter raided the house of Bilal Ahmad Dar. During search, 01 KG of Cannabis powder (Charas) and other incriminating materials used in drug peddling, were recovered from the house and the drug peddler Bilal Ahmad Dar was also arrested from the spot.”

Accordingly, a case under FIR number 186/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police said that the consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that “we are making continuous efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace”
