SRINAGAR: In view of Tuesday's Fidayeen attack on a BSF camp, the security agencies have tightened the vigil in and around Srinagar Airport.
Three militants, one BSF ASI were killed while four other security personnel were injured after a group of Fidayeen attacked a BSF base near Srinagar International airport.
Soon after the attacked, a hurriedly security review meet was called by the Airport Authority of India to discuss the “possible security measures” for the future.
Director AAI Srinagar, Sharad Kumar said that Airport Security Committee (APSC) meet was held to deliberate the “enhancement and improvise” of security measures at airport.
“Normally, we held the APSC meet every month. But this time it was hurriedly called to discuss the present security scenario at the airport. It was participated by the CRPF, JK police and other stakeholders,” he said.
Director AAI said that they have decided to adopt “some other” additional measures to make the airport safe from militant attacks in future.
“Today the normal functioning of airport was not halted. The airport has to be safe in future as well, so all the measures have been discussed,” he said.
Kumar said that the flight were initially delayed at the airport after militants stroke a BSF camp near to the aerodrome.
“Some of the flights were delayed in the morning but then it resumed. The airline security, airlines companies cooperated well to ensure smooth functioning after the attack. Our people have worked bravely after the incident and credit goes to the as well,” he said.
The Srinagar International Airport is a defense airport and is directly controlled by the Indian Air force.
Soon after the attack during which three militants were killed, security forces declared high alert in the area.
The road leading up to the airport were sealed till 9 am, while schools and other business establishment also remained closed for the day.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Muneer Ahmad Khan in a presser said that the airport is “well- guarded and favourable to be used”
