A protest was held by Congress workers against government in Gandho area of the mountainous district Doda for absence of Tehsildars and shortage of doctors.

One of the protester identified as Thakur Lal was also got injured in police lathi-charge during the protest when protesters tried to lock the Sub District Magistrate (SDM) office at Gandho on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, at around 10 am Congress workers staged massive protest demonstration in sub-district headquarters against coalition government and raised slogan against them.

Protesters said people of remote areas have been facing grave hardships owing to shortage of doctors in sub-district hospital, Gandho and absence of Tehsildar in their area resulting important works got struck.

Congress workers in huge numbers gathered at SDM, Office Gandho and tried to lock out the office, however police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse congress workers in which one person got injured.

Later, protesters blocked the Thathri-Kilotran road for about two hours and staged massive protest against police action on protesters and demanded strict action against erring police cops.

Sub District Police Officer, (SDPO) Gandho Sunny Gupta said, “It was mild lathi charge only to disperse protesters who tried to lock the SDM, office over an issue of absence Tehsildar and shortage of doctors in Gandho.”

The protest ended after assurance was given by Sub District Police Officer, (SDPO) Gandho Sunny Gupta and other officers to take up their demands to higher-up.
