Asha School: A noble cause
7/30/2010 12:12:13 AM

NL Correspondent
Udhampur , July 29 : 'Self reliance is like a ray of light, no matter how dark it gets, it will help you find your way' Asha school being run by 'Forever in Operation' Division in Kargil is trying to provide that ray of hope to various children of the area of responsibility who are 'Differently abled'.
Jahir Ghulam Mohd who is 15 years of age joined the school in Jun 2001. He could not speak and was mentally challenged. He was unable to understand even basic conversation. His parents brought him to the school with a prayer to help him become self reliant. The unflinching care and persistent scientific training imparted to him, patiently, along the years have finally started showing results. Now, Jahir can speak few words and by and large understand whatever is being said to him. His mental abilities are also sharper with the unrelenting 'basic skill' grooming imparted to him by the teachers.
Jahir's father Hazi Mohd Hussain is a resident of Poyen village and is grateful to the Army for taking on such a noble cause. 'There are a lot of children like Jahir in this area who need to be taken care of, he says, and the Army is the only organisation who are actually helping them. There are presently 30 children being trained in the school on various skills like physiotherapy, IQ test, speech therapy etc. 'These children happily participate in all activities of the school and are very enthusiastic whenever something new is being taught to them' says Ms Hamida Bano who is their teacher.
