Mass Layoffs: Govt asks pvt schools to submit fin statements

Srinagar, Sep 16: Waking up to the arbitrary termination of teachers, the and government has asked all private schools to submit audited financial statements for the last two years.

Since the lockdown, private schools have directed their teachers to work from home and hold online classes.

However, many teachers working with reputed private schools had to take salary cuts. Some schools laid-off teachers despite charging fees from the students.

Sources said after receiving complaints about the termination of teachers without notice, all private schools including those affiliated with CBSC and ICSC have been directed to submit financial and other details within 10 days.

The documents to be submitted include audited financial statement for the year 2018-19 and 2019-20, salary statement of teaching and non-teaching staff with details name of a staff member, address, account number, bank branch, and contact numbers from August 2019 till date which will have to be attested by the head of the institution.

The government said schools may also submit the fee structure of 2018-19 and 2019-20 (Kashmir division) 2019-20 and 2020-21 (Jammu division and CBSC schools of Kashmir division).

Schools have been asked to provide the details of the total number of enrolled students for the session 2018-19 and 2019-20 and the number of newly admitted students.

“It is mandatory for every school in Jammu and Kashmir to make all these details available. They shall have to put it on their websites to ensure transparency,” an official of the department said.

He said the government has received numerous complaints from teachers. “Schools cannot exploit the teachers. They shall have to be accountable to the government,” said the official.
