Tawi, June 28:A large number of people from all walks of life including lawyers, political and social activists, his friends and relatives, today bid a tearful adieu to Senior Advocate and former President of J&K High Court Bar Association, Sh B.S. Slathia, who passed away on Saturday at PGI, Chandigarh where was admitted for treatment.

His mortal remains were consigned to flames in an ambience of tears and gloom at Jogi Gate Ghat at the bank of Tawi with his family, friend and close relatives,prominent advocates including JKHCBA office bearers in attendance. However, a very large number of people also marked their presence while observing the physical distancing in sequenced visits before and after the pyre was lit.

Slathia breathed his last at PGI, Chandigarh on June 27 in morning after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Three times elected president of J&K HCBA, BS Slathia was a eminent lawyer, assertive voice of legal fraternity and a vocal proponent of cause of Jammu. His noted role in 2008 Shri Amarnath Yatra agitation is duly remembered by the people of Jammu.

His death is widely condoled by the Lt. Governor, Judges, Judicial Officers, Political and social activists and various district and block Bar Associations of J&K including the Bar.The JKHCBA led by its President Abhinav Sharma represented the lawyer fraternity in paying homage to ex bar president. The J&K High Court today observed condolence reference paying rich tributes to late BS Slathia.

In his message, the LG described Slathia as a prominent public figure who would always be remembered for his services to legal fraternity.

The LG prayed for peace to the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

Hailed as “Voice of Jammu', Slathia 70 years old passed away on Saturday morning after a brief illness at the PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Although considered a close of confidant of Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad, Slathia took tough stand on issues related to the Jammu region on different occasions.

Advisor to LG, KK Sharma condoled the demise of Slathia.

Expressing grief over the demise of Slathia, Conference leaders described the death as great loss for Jammu in general and legal fraternity in particular.

A party statement said Slathia was the most vocal legal practitioner who took keen interest in issues pertaining to Jammu. “He was respected by his colleagues and his death has caused a vacuum that will be hard to fill,” said the leaders.

Provincial President Devender Singh Rana and other party leaders expressed condolences with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Senior Congress leader GhulamNabi Azad expressed his heartfelt condolences on the demise of Slathia.

“I am deeply saddened by the sad demise of Slathia. He was a very strong and vocal proponent for development of Jammu. In his demise Jammu has lost a strong voice. He was actively involved in social service throughout his life,” said Azad. He expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for peace J&K Congress President GA Mir expressed grief over the demise of Slathia. In a statement, Mir said Slathia was former chairman of legal cell of the party.

“His passing away is indeed a great loss to all of us,” said Mir while expressing solidarity with the bereaved. Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) leaders expressed shock over the demise of Salathia. In a condolence message, the party leaders termed Slathia's demise as loss of Jammu's strong voice, who remained vocal on various issues being faced by common people.

“He was a strong voice of Jammu. His passing away will leave a void in our lives. He represented all section of society,” said the JKAP leaders.

The joint statement was issued by senior party leaders including Manjit Singh, Vijay Bakaya and others.

Prof. Bhim Singh, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of and Chief Patron of J&K National Panthers Party paid floral tributes to the departed colleague. Two minutes silence was observed in honour of the departed noble soul in JKNPP condolence meeting.

All India Lawyers Union (J&K Unit) has expressed grave shock on the untimely sad demise of Bhupinder Singh Slathia. In an emergency telephonic meeting the AILU members paid rich tributes to Slathia and remembered his multiple contributions for the lawyers, people of Jammu Province.
