KK Sharma takes oath as JK Election Commissioner

Tawi, Oct 30: Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor, KK Sharma took oath as the J&K election commissioner on Friday.

Sharma held the post of advisor to the Lt Governor of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir prior to his appointment.

A 1983-batch IAS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Mizoram Union Territories () cadre, KK Sharma was sworn in as the J&K election commissioner at a ceremony in Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on Friday evening.

IAS officer Rohit Kansal, who is also the official spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir administration said in a tweet on Friday, “Sh. K. K. Sharma resigns as Advisor to Lieutenant Governor of J&K; appointed State Election Commissioner.”

First appointed as advisor to the then Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor GC Murmu in November 2019, Sharma was retained when Murmu took over as the 14th Comptroller and Auditor General of in August of this year. With a career spanning over three decades, Sharma then served sitting J&K LG Manoj Sinha prior to his appointment as the UT's election commissioner on Friday.

KK Sharma has also held the offices of chief secretary of Delhi and Goa among other top positions. Prior to his retirement, he also served as a Secretary in the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and an advisor to the administrator of Chandigarh.

While attending the convocation of Government Medical College, Jammu in March of this year, KK Sharma had urged doctors to uplift the sector in J&K. In the same month, he also attended the Global Investor Summit 2020 to invite investment to the UT.
