JKCA holds Srinagar polls in urgency

Date:

Tawi, Sept 15 | SAN: Jammu and Association (JKCA) yesterday announced the District Srinagar elections on a short notice just before the judgemental hearing fixed by the J&K High Court (JKHC) on September 18.

As per a notification dated 14-09-2020, issued in this regard, the JKCA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SAH Bukhari has fixed September 17 as date for the elections and the results thereof. Just a day before the elections, i.e. September 16, the JKCA has invited nominations till 2 pm, followed by the withdrawal up to 4 pm on the same day.

The whole exercise shall take place at the JKCA office, Sonwar in Srinagar. Those interested in contesting the elections for five posts of president, general secretary, vice president, treasurer and joint secretary have been advised to submit nominations accompanied with a Demand Draft of Rs 5,000 as security deposit.

“How has the CEO JKCA issued a fresh notice today for holding district cricket association on September 17 when his mandate to do any such action is under challenge before the J&K High Court for which the court has fixed September 18 for further hearing. Does this action not amount to causing disrespect of the judiciary and does it not amount to prior presumption of a verdict in his favour,” veteran in the JKCA and former general secretary, M L Nehru told.
