Gupkar lobby calls it ‘desperate need', BJP lashes out

Tawi, Oct 18: A large number of youths flocked for the recruitment drive by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jammu and on Sunday. The supporters of the Gupkar Declaration in J&K said that the youths have displayed the struggle for survival because of the unemployment in the state.

The BSF held the second round of recruitment process in the form of written test at nine centres in the Union Territory and for the post of constable in the BSF and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Around 30,000 candidates on Sunday participated in the written examination for recruitment in the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, a BSF spokesperson said.

“Border Security force held the second round of recruitment in the form of written test at nine centres spread at its campuses in Srinagar, Bandipore, Baramulla, Kupwara, Gurez Tangdhar and also at Police Line, Kargil, ITBP Camp, and Police Line, Diskit, Nubra Valley, District Leh; for the post of constable (general duty),” an official release of BSF said.

It stated a total of 1.356 vacancies have been created since November 2019 to provide employment to the youth of 22 districts of the two newly created Union Territories.

A day before the abrogation of Article 370 after an all-party meeting was called on August 4, 2019, political parties in J&K had issued a resolution called ‘Gupkar Declaration' to protect and defend the identity, autonomy, and special status of Jammu and Kashmir together. The group vowed to fight for the restoration of the special status of J&K.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lashed out at the Gupkar lobby. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Kashmiris are welcoming their new-found freedom but the Gupkar lobby are accustomed to living in a polluted environment.

Former J&K Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta also said that the coming of the youths in thousands for the recruitment drive shows that the people in the Union Territory enjoy living in India and respect and value the Indian constitution. They have seen a new environment in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
