Demands rollback of new taxes, increase in fare

Tawi, Feb 22: Transporters in Jammu on Monday announced an indefinite strike from February 24 demanding roll back of new taxes as well as increase in fare.

Transporters while addressing a press conference in Jammu said that their decision to go on indefinite strike from February 24 was the last choice as transporters have always remained on receiving end of Government and never get their right without agitation.

“In the lockdown period, no vehicle plied but we have to pay all taxes and amid soaring fuel prices, there is a need for an increase in fare,” said transporters. “We will be on indefinite strike from February 24 onwards and no passenger vehicle will ply from Lakhanpur to Uri across Jammu and UT.”

They said that government must rollback new taxes imposed on transporters and increase the fare.
