The death toll continued to rise unabated with three more persons, including CRPF trooper and a woman, dying due to COVID-19 in Kashmir on Monday, taking the total number of fatalities due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 184.
A paramilitary CRPF trooper, who was posted in Kulgam, has died at a hospital here due to covid-19 on Monday. The trooper's death is the third fatality due to the virus among the paramilitary ranks in Jammu and Kashmir so far.
Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital here said that the 55-year-old died at the hospital this morning. “His sample came out to be positive this afternoon,” he added.
With these deaths, 148 people have lost their lives due to infection in 39 days, and 167 people in 53 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 10,500-mark.
Official sources said that a 55-year-old woman, a resident of Pulwama, was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on July 5 for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bilateral pneumonia. “The woman, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the hospital on Monday,” they said.
They said that a 46-year-old man, a resident of Sopore in Baramulla, was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for bilateral Community Acquired pneumonia (CAP) with Thrombocytopenia (a low number of platelets in the blood) and multiple myelomas (a cancer of plasma cells). “The patient, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died at around 0600 hrs on Monday,” they said.
On Sunday, 10 people — including an 11-day-old baby, 80-year-old woman, 47-year-old woman and 75-year-old man from Kulgam, a 65-year-old man and 55-year-old man from Baramulla, 55-year-old woman from Ganderbal, two patients from Srinagar and 55-year-old patient from Budgam — died due to COVID-19.
