The 18th Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Debate on “Road Accidents” was organized today in the Brig. Rajinder Singh Memorial Auditorium of Jammu University. The debate was organized by Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Police Chapter, J&K Police in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu. Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. Manoj K. Dhar was the Chief Guest while Additional Director General of Police A. G. Mir was the Guest of Honour on the occasion and Dr. Ashok Bhan IPS (Retd.) Patron IIPA J&K Regional Branch presided over the function. In his address Vice Chancellor of the Jammu University Prof. Manoj K. Dhar said that Jammu University is committed to host the Veeranna Aivalli debates every year. He said that it gives pleasure and privilege that the University associated with the one of the distinguished Police officers Shri Veeranna Aivalli, who is a source of inspiration not only for the officers of J&K Police but also society in general and for the students.
While thanking the Patron IIPA Dr Bhan and the Jammu University the Guest of Honour A.G Mir ADGP Headquarters (PHQ) said that it gives him immense pleasure to be part of the programme. He said that Shri Veerana Aivalli has set an example for us by his professional competence, un-impeachable integrity and above all bridging the gap between the administration and the civil society. Referring to the debate topic, the ADGP said that the 1.5 lakh deaths occur every year in the country and about 1000 lose their lives in Jammu and Kashmir every year in road accidents, which he termed as a matter of concern for all of us. He said that J&K Police is committed to the goal to provide safe roads and added that we have a programme under implementation to use technology for traffic management and implementation of laws.
ADGP also praised the participants for their confident and extempore performance.
In his presidential address Dr. Ashok Bhan IPS (Retd.) Patron IIPA J&K Regional Branch highlighted the contributions of Late Shri Veeranna Aivalli and said that attending this programme every year is like a pilgrimage for him.
Among others wife of the Shri Veeranna Aivalli Smt. Swarn Aivalli and other members of Aivalli family, galaxy of serving and retired bureaucrats, police officers, academicians and students were also present on the occasion.
